What: Hotel Solamar is the boutique answer to the slew of Hyatts, Hiltons and Marriotts that line the historic streets. Its got the standard San Diego hotel amenities including a rooftop bar, an upscale restaurant and proximity to the ballpark – without the corporate feel. To top it off, it’s not too swanky to make you feel uncomfortable when that friend orders a round of Jager shots.

Why: It’s a reason not to stay at a chain hotel, especially if it’s on the company card.
